Illuminate · Empower · Inspire — where every piece tells a story.
Alumia Design Studio offers a diverse range of original jewelry pieces — each meticulously finished by hand and accompanied by a meaning card that details the symbolism behind the design. We specialize in custom jewelry, inviting customers to add their own personal touch to the creation, and our services extend to gold plating, studio workshops and events, jewelry repair and upgrades, and one-of-a-kind custom pieces.
"In my studio, I create more than just jewelry; my goal is to blend spirit and matter, illuminating and empowering those who wear my pieces." — Hila Pavlopoulos Por, artist and owner
The Alumia mission is to illuminate hidden knowledge and bring light and meaning through art. At its heart, that means creating jewelry with unique symbolic meanings — from hidden symbols to shining gemstones — each piece arriving with a card that explains its essence.
In December 2024 we opened our studio & storefront in the community of Savage Mill, Maryland, where you can experience Alumia in person: a wide variety of jewelry, custom-design meetings, repair and upgrade services, and in-house gold plating. Our studio also presents and promotes talented emerging local artists. Come visit!

Derived from the idea of illumination, Alumia is inspired by the ancient words Alum and Aluma — each signifying a hidden, sacred light that shines through the darkness.
Wearing an Alumia piece is a distinct experience: each piece carries its own character and sense of individuality, giving the wearer a quiet, almost unexplainable connection. May you find the piece that shines its secret light on you.

Hila (Pavlopoulos) Por lives in Columbia, Maryland with her husband and kids. Having worked with jewelry for over 12 years as a freelance designer, Hila specializes in delicate hand carvings and intricate designs requiring strong attention to detail.
"I was always driven by the idea of integrating spirit and matter — bringing knowledge and light to my customers' lives through art."
It was on this principle that Alumia was founded. Hila is the lead designer and owner, with a growing collection of over 100 unique designs and 1,500 variants to choose from. "I enjoy creating pieces of jewelry I've never seen before, inspired by sacred geometry and energetic symbolism. Most of my designs come with special cards explaining their symbolic meaning — something that resonates deeply with my customers."
Hila works closely with trusted specialist partners — stone setters, plating services, and more — to ensure the high-quality realization of Alumia's original designs, from a studio equipped for original designs, custom works, and prototypes. We keep pace with the newest developments and trends of the jewelry market to bring our customers the best — without ever forgetting the goal at the center of it all: unique, meaningful jewelry made with consciousness, intention, and care.
Every design begins as Hila's original sketch, drawn from symbolism, mythology, and the personal stories of clients.
Every piece is designed in our Savage Mill studio and finished, set, and polished by hand.

Box photo coming soonEach month, a symbolic piece — designed by Hila in Maryland and finished by hand — arrives with the story behind it, chosen for the season and the intention. Real metal, never costume. Makes an unforgettable gift, too.
Pick the membership that fits — and tell us your metal tone and the meanings you're drawn to.
Each month she selects and hand-finishes a piece around a theme — protection, love, transformation.
Boxes mail on the 14th of each month (next business day on weekends & holidays), free, in keepsake packaging with a card explaining its symbol.
Love every piece. Need a month off? Skip, pause, or cancel anytime from your account — no fees.
Billed monthly. Prepay a year and save — see below.
Monthly pieces are a curated surprise and vary by month; photos are illustrative. “Value” reflects typical individual retail pricing of comparable pieces. You're charged on the 1st of each month and boxes mail on the 14th (next business day if it falls on a weekend or holiday). Skip, pause, or cancel anytime from your account — no contracts, no cancellation fees. The bonus statement piece (Aura) — claimable in any month after your sixth — and yearly 14k gold heirloom (Halo) require an active membership at the time of the milestone.
Fine jewelry is meant to last — so we keep yours like new. Your warranty covers re-plating for gold-plated pieces, re-polishing for silver, ring resizing within two sizes, and repairs within reason (a bent band, a loose stone, a worn clasp). Send it in and we make it right.
Add 3-year coverage to any piece for $29.99, or cover everything you own for $14.99/mo or $149.99/yr — included free on the Aura & Halo tiers.
Most months are silver and gold-plated — wearable, meaningful, everyday. But Halo members receive something rarer: a solid 14k gold heirloom piece, designed and finished in studio, made to be kept and passed on. The design varies by year and may be a petite piece — a stud, charm, or small pendant.
It's the kind of piece that usually costs a month's rent at a fine jeweler. Here, it's simply part of belonging.
Every piece is symbolic and hand-finished — chosen for intention, never to pad a box.
Tell us your tone and any sensitivities. Everything is nickel-free and kind to wear daily.
Skip, pause, swap tiers, or cancel anytime from your account. No contracts, no fees.
Priority access to new designs, seasonal drops, and the Naxus Set before anyone else.
Each piece arrives ready to gift, with a card telling the story behind its symbol.
A membership makes an unforgettable gift — one piece at a time, with a story each month. Choose a tier, check out, and tick "This is a gift" on the review step — we'll tuck a gift card with your message into their first box and run the monthly boxes in their name.
The monthly piece is a curated surprise built around your metal tone and the meanings you tell us you love — that's the magic of it. Halo members have a say in their gold heirloom and any custom work.
Anytime, from your account — skip a month, pause, change tiers, or cancel, with no fees or contracts.
You're charged on the 1st of each month, and boxes mail on the 14th — if the 14th falls on a weekend or holiday, yours ships the next business day. U.S. shipping is always free.
No — the Alumia Circle is our free rewards program. The Alumia Box is a paid membership that sends you a piece each month. Members earn Circle points too.
Yes — a 12-month prepaid membership saves about 15% and locks your rate. Halo prepay guarantees your solid 14k gold heirloom within your prepaid year — it ships by month 12 even if you choose not to renew. Monthly Halo members reach the heirloom at 12 consecutive active months; cancelling earlier forfeits that year’s heirloom.

Professional care for your pieces — polishing, re-plating, ring resizing and minor repairs, done by hand in our studio.
Gold-plated pieces lose their glow with wear. Send yours in and we re-plate it in 24k bright gold in the studio.
Sterling silver tarnishes and scratches. We hand-polish it back to bright.
Fingers change. We resize a covered ring within two sizes, right at the bench.
A bent band, a loose stone, a worn clasp, a broken link — we make it right.
Your coverage lives next to your pieces. Sign in and we'll show you what's eligible — past orders included — and what each piece is due.
We keep care simple: one request, one parcel, one visit to the bench — we call it a Care Event. When your piece arrives it doesn't get one service; it gets every service it's due. A gold-plated ring a year into its life leaves the studio re-plated, hand-polished, prongs checked, clasp tightened — all in the same visit.
Open your Alumia account, choose the piece — or pieces — and tell us what's going on. We confirm coverage before you ship anything.
Mail it to the studio, or drop it off at Savage Mill. Members can send every covered piece in one parcel — one box, one trip, your whole collection cared for.
Hila unpacks every parcel herself, works each piece at the bench, and ships it home — return shipping on us. Most visits take one to two weeks.
Every Care Event includes a professional clean and polish. On top of that, each piece gets what it's due: re-plating for gold-plated pieces once every 12 months, ring resizing within two sizes, and minor repairs — a loosened stone, a bent band, a worn clasp, a broken link, an earring post.
Two ways to be covered: protect a single favorite, or put your whole collection — including the pieces you haven't met yet — under the studio's care.
| What you get | Per piece | Warranty Membership Everything you own |

| Best for | One piece you wear constantly, protected simply | A growing collection — several pieces, plated pieces, rings |
If Alumia is one special piece, the per-piece plan is honest value: $29.99, three full years of studio care, done.
If you're building a collection — two, three, five pieces, some of them plated, one of them a ring — the membership doesn't just cover more, it works differently: everything travels together in one parcel, everything is due care every year, and every piece you add is covered before it even ships. At $14.99 a month that's under 50¢ a day, and the yearly plan is essentially twelve months for the price of ten. A single re-plating runs about $75 at a typical bench.
Alumia Box Aura and Halo members: the Warranty Membership is already included with your tier.
What's covered: care comes as Care Events — one mail-in (or drop-off) visit to the studio, where your piece gets everything it's due: a professional clean and polish every time, re-plating for gold-plated pieces, ring resizing within two sizes, and minor repairs (a loosened stone, a bent band, a worn clasp, a broken link, an earring post).
How often: each gold-plated piece may be re-plated once every 12 months. Per-piece plans include one Care Event per piece per 12 months, with one resizing across the 3-year term. Memberships include three Care Events per membership year, resizing once every 12 months per ring, and any number of covered pieces in one parcel. If a request goes beyond reasonable wear, we'll quote a fair repair instead.
How to enroll: tick "Add Jewelry Warranty" next to a piece in your cart, or add it from your Alumia account any time within 6 months (180 days) of your order date. Pieces enrolled after purchase wait 30 days before their first Care Event, and we look every mailed-in piece over at the bench before working on it — anything damaged beyond normal wear goes back unserviced, with return postage on you. Fair is fair in both directions.
How long it lasts: per-piece coverage lasts 3 years from its coverage start date. Membership coverage is active only while your subscription is in good standing — coverage and any waiting-period progress end if it's cancelled. The program is a service commitment from our working studio, not an insurance product.
Not covered: loss, theft, damage beyond reasonable wear, work by other jewelers, and pieces not made by Alumia. Non-jewelry items — ring sizers, care & polishing kits — and beaded bracelets and chokers aren't eligible for coverage. Coverage belongs to the purchaser of record and doesn't travel with a piece by resale. Gifts are the one exception: a piece bought from Alumia as a gift can be registered to the person who received it — write to the studio with the order number, and once we've confirmed the order we'll move the coverage onto their account. There's no code to redeem — the studio makes the move, and registering any time during the coverage term never shortens it. Shipping your piece to the studio is on you; the return trip is on us.
Changes: we may update these terms for future purchases; the version published when you bought applies to you. Questions? Just ask — contact Hila.
All warranty work is done by hand in our Savage Mill, Maryland studio.
1. The Program. The Alumia Jewelry Warranty Program (the "Program") is a discretionary service commitment offered by Alumia Design Studio ("Alumia," "we," "us"), of 8600 Foundry Street, Suite 014, Savage, MD 20763. The Program is not a contract of insurance, an extended warranty regulated as insurance, or a guarantee of merchantability, and it does not modify any rights you hold under applicable consumer-protection law.
2. Eligibility & enrollment. Coverage applies only to fine jewelry designed and sold by Alumia. Non-jewelry items (including ring sizers and care or polishing kits) and fashion accessories (including beaded bracelets and chokers) are not eligible for coverage. An eligible piece may be enrolled: (a) at checkout, when the piece is purchased; (b) at any time within 180 days of the original order date, through your Alumia account; or (c) at any time under an active Alumia Warranty Membership, which covers all eligible Alumia pieces on orders in your Alumia account. Coverage purchased at checkout begins immediately for the pieces in that order. Pieces enrolled after purchase have a 30-day waiting period before their first Care Event. Pieces whose 180-day enrollment window has passed may be covered only by a membership, and have a 90-day waiting period of continuous membership before their first Care Event. Every post-purchase enrollment is additionally subject to review of the piece's condition upon its first receipt at the studio: pieces showing damage beyond normal wear, or pieces materially different from the enrolled piece, will be returned unserviced, with return postage at the owner's expense. Coverage is personal to the purchaser of record and does not transfer with a piece by resale or subsequent gift — with one exception: a piece purchased from Alumia as a gift may be registered to the person who received it, by writing to the studio at studio@alumiadesignstudio.com with the order number. The request may come from the recipient or from the purchaser on their behalf; Alumia may ask for further confirmation of the gift — for example the ZIP code the order was delivered to — before moving the coverage, and may decline a request it cannot verify. Every gift registration is performed by the studio: it is not available as a self-service action from any Alumia account, no claim or registration code is issued with a gift, and no Alumia account can claim an order it did not place. Coverage is moved to the email address the recipient uses for their free Alumia account, which may be created before or after the registration is made; until it is made, the coverage stays registered to the purchaser, who may request care on the piece in the meantime. Alumia may in future offer gift registration directly from a purchaser's or a recipient's own account, in which case these terms will be amended prospectively under Section 8. Gift registration transfers coverage-holder status: once registered, the piece is no longer covered under the giver's account or membership. Registration may be requested at any time while coverage is in force, and neither shortens nor extends it: it does not restart enrollment windows, waiting periods, or coverage terms, which continue to run from their original dates under Sections 2 and 6. Pieces received under an Alumia Box tier that includes the Program (currently Aura and Halo) are covered on membership-equivalent terms while that Box membership remains active.
3. Covered services — Care Events. Care under the Program is delivered through Care Events. A Care Event is one mail-in (or Savage Mill drop-off) service visit to our studio. During a Care Event, each covered piece receives every service it is then due, as applicable: professional cleaning and polishing (included with every visit); re-plating of gold-plated pieces to 24k bright gold (once per piece in any rolling 12-month period); ring resizing within two sizes (memberships: once per ring in any rolling 12-month period; per-piece plans: once during the 3-year term; stone-set and eternity-style bands resized at our reasonable discretion); and minor repairs, meaning re-tightening a loosened stone, straightening a bent band, repairing or replacing a worn clasp, re-soldering a broken link, and repairing an earring post. Per-piece plans include one Care Event per piece per 12 months. Memberships include three Care Events per membership year — a membership year being each successive 12-month period measured from the membership start date — and multiple covered pieces may be sent together in a single parcel as one Care Event. Where a request exceeds ordinary wear, Alumia will decline the request under the Program and may offer a paid repair estimate instead.
4. Exclusions. The Program does not cover: loss or theft; damage from accident, misuse, negligence, or exposure to chemicals, abrasives, or ultrasonic cleaning of plated pieces; breakage or loss of stones; total loss or destruction of a piece; redesign or alteration beyond the resizing described in Section 3; damage or wear pre-existing enrollment, as assessed by our studio upon receipt; pieces that arrive materially different from the enrolled piece; service requests made while a membership is not in active, paid status; any work performed by a third party (which voids coverage for the affected piece); pieces not manufactured by Alumia; and normal patina or color variation inherent to hand-finished work.
5. Process; shipping. Service requests are made through your Alumia account, or by contacting the studio. You are responsible for the cost and risk of shipping the piece to the studio; we recommend tracked, insured shipping, and Alumia is not responsible for items lost or damaged in transit to us. Alumia pays return shipping within the United States on serviced Care Events. Pieces returned unserviced under Sections 2 or 4 (damage beyond normal wear, pre-existing damage, mismatched or ineligible pieces) are returned with postage at the owner's expense. Typical studio turnaround is one to two weeks from receipt; current turnaround is shown in your account when you request a Care Event.
6. Term; termination. Per-piece coverage continues for three (3) years from its coverage start date — the order date for enrollment at checkout, or the enrollment date for post-purchase enrollment. Membership coverage is active only while the subscription is in good standing; coverage and any waiting-period progress end upon cancellation, and resume only by re-subscribing (waiting periods restart). Per-piece plans are unaffected by membership status. Program fees are those published at the time of purchase. All coverage is additionally conditioned on Alumia Design Studio remaining in commercial operation; if the studio permanently ceases operation, the Program terminates without further obligation, refund, or liability, except as required by law.
7. Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Alumia's aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Program is limited to the lesser of the price paid for the affected piece or the fees paid for its coverage, and in no event includes indirect, incidental, consequential, or sentimental-value damages.
8. Changes; governing law. Alumia may amend these terms prospectively; the version in effect at the time of your purchase governs that purchase. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Maryland.

Because Alumia makes several kinds of work, returns work a little differently for each. Find the category that matches your order below.
Ready-to-wear jewelry (necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, and gift sets) and jewelry-care products may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the item price.
Condition: items must be returned unworn and unused, in their original condition and original packaging, with any certificates, cards, and gifts-with-purchase included.
Return shipping: the buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. We recommend a tracked, insured service — Alumia is not responsible for returns lost or damaged in transit to us.
Loss in value: the buyer is responsible for any loss in value if an item is not returned in its original condition (for example, signs of wear, damage, alteration, or missing packaging). Alumia may reduce the refund to reflect that loss in value.
Refunds: issued to the original payment method within 5–10 business days after we receive and inspect the return. Original shipping charges are non-refundable.
Promotional codes & gift cards: if a promotional code was used on your order, your refund will reflect the price you actually paid after the discount — promotional codes are one-time use and can't be restored or exchanged for credit once redeemed. If part of your order was paid with an Alumia gift card, that portion will always come back to you as a new gift-card code, with any remaining balance refunded to your original payment method. When you return one piece from a larger order, your discount stays with the pieces you keep, and we refund the discounted price of the piece you return.
Personalized & final-sale items: engraved or personalized pieces and anything marked “final sale” are not eligible for return under this policy (see Custom Orders).
Each Premier piece is individually designed and made, and is sold only once — it cannot simply be restocked.
Premier pieces may be returned within 30 days of delivery but are subject to a 20% restocking fee, which is deducted from the refund. The original-condition, buyer-paid return shipping, and loss-in-value terms above also apply.
Any custom or personalized element added to a Premier piece is non-refundable (see Custom Orders).
Bespoke pieces are designed and handcrafted specifically for you and cannot be resold, so they are handled differently from shop products.
Non-refundable deposit: custom work is confirmed with a 50% deposit after you approve the sketch and quote. This deposit is non-refundable — it reserves your production slot and covers design time and the materials ordered for your piece.
Final sale: once production begins, custom orders are final sale and are not eligible for return, exchange, or refund, except where a piece arrives damaged or materially different from the approved design (see below).
Design consultation: the $30 design consultation fee is non-refundable, but is credited in full toward your final piece if you proceed.
Approvals: you approve the design sketch, materials, and quote before any work begins. We build only what you approve; changes requested after approval may affect the price and timeline.
Received an Alumia piece as a gift? Return it through the Return Center's gift option with the order number and the ZIP code it was delivered to. The ZIP is the one your parcel came to; the order number is the one thing you may need to ask the giver for — if an Alumia warranty card came in the box, the studio may have written it on the front. We never tell them you started a return.
Gift returns always come back as Alumia store credit, emailed to you as a gift-card code within 5–10 business days of your return reaching the studio — so the gift stays a gift. The credit never expires. The same condition, window, and return-shipping terms as the category above apply.
This applies to every category above. If your piece arrives damaged, defective, or materially not as described, contact the studio within 7 days of delivery with photos. We will repair, replace, or refund the item at our discretion, at no cost to you — including return shipping. This does not affect any statutory rights you may have as a consumer.
Ordinary wear over time is covered separately under the Alumia Jewelry Warranty, not this return policy.
Email the studio (or use the contact form) with your order number, the item(s) you'd like to return, and the reason. We'll confirm eligibility and send return instructions and the studio address. Please do not ship anything back before we confirm your return.

What your jewelry is made of, and how to keep it glowing.
Sterling silver (.925): solid precious metal, polished bright. It can tarnish naturally over time — a quick polish brings it right back.
Gold-plated silver & brass: 24k bright gold plating applied in the studio. Warm and rich — treat it kindly and it lasts; the warranty re-plates it when it doesn't.
Solid gold: heirloom-grade, hallmarked. It resists tarnish and can be worn daily for a lifetime.
Stones: genuine gemstones (garnet, moonstone, onyx, birthstones) set by hand. Everything is nickel-free and kind to sensitive skin.
💧 Last on, first off: put jewelry on after lotion and perfume; take it off before swimming, showering, and sleeping.
✨ Wipe after wear with a soft cloth — skin oils are the main cause of dulling.
📦 Store dry and separate — the pouch or box it arrived in is ideal; it prevents scratches and slows tarnish.
🧼 Deep clean: lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft brush — never harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners on plated pieces.
When a piece needs more than home care, the Alumia Jewelry Warranty Program re-plates, re-polishes, and repairs it by hand in the studio.

Order information: when you purchase, we collect your name, email, shipping address, phone number, and details of the items you ordered. Payment card details are entered directly with our payment processor, Stripe — Alumia never sees or stores your full card number.
Email signups: if you join our email list (for example, for a welcome discount), we collect your email address and your marketing preferences.
Analytics & device data: like most sites we collect usage data — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type — through cookies and similar technologies, to understand how the site is used and improve it.
We use your information to: fulfill and ship your orders and provide receipts and order updates; run your account, favorites, and order history; provide warranty, return, and repair services; send marketing emails you've opted into (you can unsubscribe anytime); answer your messages; prevent fraud; and improve the site and our products.
We do not sell your personal information.
We share data only with the service providers that run the store, and only what each needs to do its job:
Supabase — hosts our database and authentication (accounts, orders, favorites). Stripe — processes payments and subscriptions. Klaviyo — sends our marketing and transactional emails. Google — optional Google sign-in and Google Analytics usage measurement. Shippo — creates shipping labels and tracking for your orders. Vercel — hosts the website.
Each provider processes your data under its own privacy policy and our instructions. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name and email address with us to create or access your Alumia account. We use this information only for authentication and the account features described above; we do not request access to anything else in your Google account, and we do not transfer Google user data to third parties except the infrastructure providers listed here.
We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your cart and favorites, and measure site traffic (Google Analytics, and ad-platform pixels where enabled). You can control cookies through your browser settings; the cart and sign-in may not work with all cookies blocked.
We keep account and order records for as long as your account is active and as needed for warranty service, tax, and legal requirements. Email-list data is kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and data (we may retain what the law requires, such as tax records of completed orders). You can unsubscribe from marketing email via the link in any message, and disconnect Google sign-in at any time from your Google account's security settings.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK or certain U.S. states), you may have additional statutory privacy rights; we honor applicable rights requests.
Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

The Naxus began as Hila's personal study of guardian symbols — the geometric forms that recur across cultures as shields, eyes, and vessels of intent. The diamond silhouette is not decorative: it traces the ancient form of the watchful eye, elongated and opened.
Red garnet was the original center stone, chosen for meaning, not trend — placed at the heart of protective amulets since antiquity. Roman soldiers wore it into battle; medieval travelers carried it for safe passage. Its deep red catches light like a living ember.
Hila has since curated two companion stones, each with its own lineage of protection: amethyst, long associated with clarity and calm intention, and lapis lazuli, carried by the ancients as a shield of truth and wisdom. Choose the one that speaks to you.
The set is the full expression of that original idea: the same form, worn at three points simultaneously. Throat, ears, wrist. A complete field of intention.
"I designed the pendant in 2021 and it became the piece I wear every day. I never meant to build a set around it — until I realized the bracelet and earrings kept appearing in my sketches. Some designs just want to be complete."
Each Naxus set is centered with your chosen stone — every one carrying its own quiet lineage of protection.
A living ember of deep red — worn into battle and across long roads since antiquity for protection and strength.
Prized since antiquity as a symbol of clarity and calm intention.
Deep celestial blue, carried by the ancients as a shield of truth — a stone of wisdom, dignity, and inner protection.
Stone photography coming soon — colors shown are true to each gem. Every stone is hand-selected and set by Hila in the Maryland studio.
Every piece begins in Hila's sketchbook. These are working studies from the development of the Naxus collection — proportion, silhouette, and stone placement before any metal is cast.
Each set includes pendant, earrings, and bracelet — cast to order in your chosen metal with genuine garnet centers. Pre-orders by September 1 ship in 6–8 weeks. 50% deposit secures your order.
A 50% deposit secures your order and locks your price. The remaining balance is charged before shipping. Sets ship within 6–8 weeks of the September 1 close. If production is delayed beyond 10 weeks, you may cancel for a full refund; before the close you may cancel anytime for a full deposit refund — just email the studio. This is a pre-order, not an off-the-shelf purchase: each set is cast to order. Each set arrives with a certificate of authenticity, care instructions, and Hila's meaning card.
