Hila's Story

The Artist Behind the Work

Hila arrived from Israel to Maryland in 2021, bringing more than a decade of jewelry design experience — and a conviction that meaningful objects should be accessible to everyone, not just the wealthy.

She founded Alumia with a single question: why does symbolic, well-crafted jewelry have to cost $2,000 minimum? Alumia exists to close that gap — original designs, studio-finished quality, from $85.

Every piece begins with Hila's original design and the question she asks every customer: "What do you want to carry with you?"

Fine jewelry is meant to last — so we keep yours like new. Your warranty covers re-plating for gold-plated pieces, re-polishing for silver, and repairs within reason (a bent band, a loose stone, a worn clasp). Send it in and we make it right.

All warranty work is done by hand in Maryland. Excludes loss, theft, and damage beyond reasonable wear.

Can I skip or cancel?

Anytime, from your account — skip a month, pause, change tiers, or cancel, with no fees or contracts.

When does it ship and bill?

You're billed on your monthly anniversary and your piece ships within a few days, free, in the U.S.

Is this the same as the Alumia Circle?

No — the Alumia Circle is our free rewards program. The Alumia Box is a paid membership that sends you a piece each month. Members earn Circle points too.

Can I prepay and save?

Re-plating

Gold-plated pieces lose their glow with wear. Send yours in and we re-plate it to 18k standard in the studio.

Re-polishing

Sterling silver tarnishes and scratches. We hand-polish it back to bright.

Reasonable repairs

A bent band, a loose stone, a worn clasp — we make it right.

How it works

1. Email the studio a photo of the piece and what it needs.

2. We confirm it's covered and send the studio address (or drop it off at Savage Mill).

3. Hila restores it by hand in Maryland and ships it back. Most work takes 1–2 weeks.

What your jewelry is made of, and how to keep it glowing.

Our materials

Sterling silver (.925): solid precious metal, polished bright. It can tarnish naturally over time — a quick polish brings it right back.

Gold-plated silver & brass: 18k-standard gold plating applied in the studio. Warm and rich — treat it kindly and it lasts; the warranty re-plates it when it doesn't.

Solid gold (10K–14K): heirloom-grade, hallmarked. It doesn't tarnish and can be worn daily for a lifetime.

Stones: genuine gemstones (garnet, moonstone, onyx, birthstones) set by hand. Everything is nickel-free and kind to sensitive skin.

Daily care

💧 Last on, first off: put jewelry on after lotion and perfume; take it off before swimming, showering, and sleeping.

✨ Wipe after wear with a soft cloth — skin oils are the main cause of dulling.

📦 Store dry and separate — the pouch or box it arrived in is ideal; it prevents scratches and slows tarnish.

🧼 Deep clean: lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft brush — never harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners on plated pieces.

When a piece needs more than home care, the Alumia Jewelry Warranty re-plates, re-polishes, and repairs it by hand in the studio.

How long does shipping take?

In-stock pieces ship within 2–3 business days from Maryland. Standard U.S. shipping arrives in 3–7 days (free over the free-shipping minimum), expedited in 2–3. You can also pick up free at our Savage Mill studio.

Do you ship outside the U.S.?

Not yet through the site — email the studio and we'll quote international shipping for your order.

What's your return policy?

Unworn pieces in original packaging can be returned within 14 days for a refund (custom and personalized work excluded — those are made just for you). Something wrong with your piece? The warranty makes it right.

How do I find my ring size?

Order the $9.99 Ring Sizing Kit from any ring page — it's automatically refunded when you buy your ring. Or visit the studio and we'll size you in person.

Is everything really handmade?

Yes — every piece is designed by Hila and handmade in Maryland: carved, cast, plated, set, and polished by hand at Savage Mill.

Can I customize a piece I see in the shop?

Almost always. Alterations start at $89 — a different stone, size, finish, or engraving. Start on the Custom Jewelry page.

What is the Alumia Box?

A monthly subscription: a handmade symbolic piece (or three) arrives with the story behind it. From $129/mo — see Subscriptions.

The Inspiration

Protection, Worn as One

The Naxus began as Hila's personal study of guardian symbols — the geometric forms that recur across cultures as shields, eyes, and vessels of intent. The diamond silhouette is not decorative: it traces the ancient form of the protective eye, elongated and opened.

Garnet was chosen as the center stone for meaning, not trend. Red garnet has been placed at the center of protective amulets since antiquity — Roman soldiers wore it into battle, medieval travelers carried it for safe passage. Its deep red catches light like a living ember.

The set is the full expression of that original idea: the same form, the same stone, worn at three points simultaneously. Throat, ears, wrist. A complete field of intention.

How Pre-orders Work

A 50% deposit secures your order and locks your price. The remaining balance is charged before shipping. Sets ship within 6–8 weeks of the September 1 close. If production is delayed beyond 10 weeks, you may cancel for a full refund; before the close you may cancel anytime for a full deposit refund — just email the studio. This is a pre-order, not an off-the-shelf purchase: each set is cast to order. Each set arrives with a certificate of authenticity, care instructions, and Hila's meaning card.
